Cameron Thomas Becomes First Confirmed Candidate in Beaches-East York By-Election

Communications consultant Cameron Thomas launches evidence-based alternative in Beaches-East York

TORONTO, August 1, 2026 - Cameron Thomas today announced his candidacy for the Canadian Future Party (CFP) in the August 31st Beaches-East York federal by-election, grounding his campaign in his own seventeen years living in the riding. Thomas is also the first candidate confirmed on the Beaches-East York by-election ballot, ahead of his opponents.

“I've spent seventeen years in the same sub-market rate rental unit, I've watched what's changed and what hasn't,” said Thomas. “Affordable housing isn't an abstraction to me, it's my address. and it's also proof that it works when it exists. That's the starting point for everything else I'm running on.”

Thomas is running on a platform built around housing affordability, access to health care, public safety, and a simpler tax system. But the centrepiece of his pitch is a fifth commitment that drew him to the CFP: to be a voice for his community and to use his own judgment on anything the party platform doesn't cover. Free votes are a pillar of the party’s message.

“This riding won’t decide who forms government, we need a local voice with the freedom to speak,” said Thomas. “I answer to this riding, not to a party line.”

Thomas argues Beaches-East York doesn't have to keep trading between the same two parties to get a serious representative. “This riding has offered the same two options for over a decade: Liberal or NDP, and both sides ask you to pick a team and yell louder about it,” said Thomas. “You don't have to be angry to want something better. You don't have to buy into either party's talking points to think this riding deserves evidence over ideology. That's what the Canadian Future Party is: not a protest vote, a rational vote.”

Thomas said his campaign will roll out its platform for the riding over the coming weeks, leading with housing and followed in turn by health care, tax reform, and public safety, closing with his commitment to free votes.
