Statement from the Canadian Future Party on Alberta Seperatism

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CFP: Alberta Deserves Partnership, Not Separation Cardy Calls for Two-Thirds Majority Threshold and Investigation into Foreign Interference

Canadian Future Party says Ottawa failed Alberta and must own it, but the answer is partnership, not the dissolution of the country.

OTTAWA, June 10th, 2026 - The Canadian Future Party today called on the federal government to treat Alberta as a partner in a national resource strategy and on Premier Smith to end the ambiguity fuelling the province's separatist movement, while demanding a full investigation into foreign interference in Alberta's democratic process.

CFP acknowledged that Ottawa's failure to develop a national resource strategy for over a decade created the conditions separatists are now exploiting and said the party will not pretend otherwise.

"Alberta's frustration with Ottawa is legitimate and long overdue for a real response, says Dominic Cardy, Leader, Canadian Future Party. “For over a decade, Alberta asked for a resource partnership and was ignored. That failure is on Ottawa. But the answer is partnership and investment, not the dissolution of the country. And the foreign interference now fuelling this movement demands a full federal investigation."

CFP said the current Alberta referendum which asks only whether Albertans want a future referendum on an undefined form of separation does not meet the democratic standard required to dissolve a country. The party is calling for a two-thirds majority requirement for any referendum on provincial independence, noting that fifty per cent plus one is not sufficient to break up a country.

The party also pointed to Elections Alberta's disclosure of a data breach in which nearly three million Albertans' personal information was funnelled through an app connected to American companies with direct ties to Republican operatives and Trump supporters, calling it a direct attack on Canadian democratic sovereignty.

"Over 456,000 Albertans signed the Forever Canadian petition. They are the majority,” says Dominic Cardy, Leader, Canadian Future Party. “CFP stands with them and we are calling on Premier Smith to stand with them too, by rejecting the manufactured separatism being stoked by foreign actors and working with Ottawa on the partnership Alberta has been owed since 2014."

BACKGROUND

The Canadian Future Party was founded in 2024 on the principles that democracy is the only legitimate form of government and evidence-based decision-making must be at the heart of Canadian politics. Dominic Cardy served as NDP Leader and PC Cabinet Minister in New Brunswick. Full position statement available at thecanadianfutureparty.ca.
